Pengertian Proper Noun dan Contohnya – Secara lazim, setiap kata benda akan dikategorikan kedalam dua jenis, adalah common noun dan proper noun. Proper noun yakni kata benda yang memperlihatkan nama pada orang, kawasan, atau benda. Proper noun memiliki karakteristik ialah menawarkan nama terhadap sesuatu secara spesifik dan diawali dengan aksara kapital. Pada tabel berikut ini akan tampakperbedaan antara common noun dan proper noun.

Contoh Proper Noun dalam Kalimat:
1. Vania continues her study to University of Lampung.
2. My brother insisted having dinner at Mc Donalds last night whereas I was in diet.
3. Sometimes, I buy some cosmetics at Guardian since it gives many discounts.
4. Bengawan Solo is very famous in Java and there is a song with the same name of that river.
5. Every Sunday, I go swimming with Leila.
6. Cikita was sad because she lost Bryan, her little dog.
7. I named my dolls Lizy and Prilly.
8. Please buy a box of Indomie for my older sister. She really loves it.
9. Do you agree if Indonesia stops the production of cigarette?

Menggunakan Huruf Kapital dalam Proper Nouns
Untuk semua nama kawasan, orang, atau benda haruslah diawali dengan aksara kapital. Namun, terdapat pula kata benda yang bisa dipakai sebagai common noun dan proper noun. Contohnya mirip kata father. Perbedaannya dapat dilihat dari dua teladan kalimat berikut ini:
“Will you come with your father?”
“Would you like to have dinner with me, Father?”
Dari kedua teladan tersebut, terlihat jelas bahwa saat kata father digunakan untuk kata sapa kepada ayah kita, maka kata father diawali dengan abjad kapital. Kata father dalam kalimat tersebut ditempatkan sama seperti Dad dan nama orang.
